General Definition:
This posting seeks engineering interns for the City of Philadelphia. Applicants who have not previously interned with the City should consider applying to specific postings for Graduate Civil Engineer or Graduate Environmental Engineer positions.

About the Position:
This role involves entry-level engineering tasks, progressively increasing in scope and complexity to develop engineers' skills. Assignments require evaluative thinking and adherence to standard engineering practices and instructions. Supervision is provided by higher-level engineers.

Minimum Requirements:
Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, hydraulic, mechanical, sanitary, environmental, chemical, or related engineering field from an accredited college or university.
    Experience:
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate engineering internship program administered by the City of Philadelphia Streets Department, Water Department, or Health Department (Air Management Services Division).

Physical & Medical Requirements:
Ability to perform job duties and work in required environmental conditions.

Required Licenses & Certifications:
Possession of a valid Class Motor Vehicle Operator’s License issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania before appointment and during employment if required.

Other Requirements:

Eligible List:

  • Open-Competitive list will be established. No promotional preference for permanent City employees.

Residency Waiver:
Residency in Philadelphia required within one year of appointment.

Preference for Philadelphia Residents:
Priority given to residents maintaining bona fide residence for at least one year prior to the exam.

Veteran’s Preference:
10-point preference for eligible veterans. Attach DD214, member 4, for consideration.

Test Review:
