Physical Education Elementary 2024-25 - Auburn

Primary Function

Conducts all regular physical education activities as designed by the School District.

Responsible to

Building Principal.

Assigned Responsibilities

  1. Maintains an orderly and supportive classroom environment in which students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
  2. Plans a program of study designed to meet District physical education goals that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  3. Plans and supervises programs in developmental physical education.
  4. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups as assigned.
  5. Maximizes time when students are paying attention and working on tasks directly related to the subject matter.
  6. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintains such records as required by law and by the District policy.
  7. Assumes responsibility for assigned nonteaching duties; i.e., lunch count, playground duty, etc.
  8. Takes all reasonable precautions to provide for health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, material, and facilities.
  9. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  10. Maintains open lines of communication with classified staff, certificated staff, and support personnel to establish a positive work environment.
  11. Works in conjunction with classroom teacher in developing life-long health and fitness activities.
  12. Assists in the selection of equipment and other instructional materials.
  13. Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  14. Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  15. Achieves professional growth through consultation with District support staff and attendance at building and District inservice meetings.
  16. Participates in activities which are related to school functions and/or the educative process which occur outside the regular school day.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.
  18. Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and the District.

Additional Responsibilities

Coordinates the activities of instructional assistants in conjunction with physical education instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Valid Oregon Teaching Certificate endorsed for physical education grades 1-6.
  2. Preference given to applicants with paid experience or student teaching working with children, ages 6-12.

Salary is prorated based on FTE:  $50,111 – $98,436
