Naturalist / Outdoor Educator / Science Camp Teacher
Mission Springs Outdoor Education is looking for recent college graduates who are passionate about nature and the environment and want to teach 5th and 6th graders in the redwood forest outside Santa Cruz, California.
Mission Springs Outdoor Education is a residential outdoor education school that is designed to foster both academic and spiritual growth in middle school students. About 95% of the schools we teach are public schools, and about 5% are private Christian schools. We are located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, just outside of Scotts Valley, California.
Status: Seasonal
Pay: $640 per week
Other: housing & meals
Naturalist duties include:
- Leading hands-on outdoor science classes on the trails that weave through our redwood forest habitat. Some classes occur in the evenings.
- Introducing children to God’s creation and teaching them to be good stewards of natural resources
- Daily tasks to help the program run smoothly including meal lineups, recess duties, and office tasks.
Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. required; Biology (or related science field) or Elementary Education preferred, but all majors encouraged to apply; current CPR/First Aid certification; proven ability to be a positive Christian role model for children; teaching experience & bilingual a plus.
- Desire to live in a Christian Community (housing is provided).

- School Year Position (Mid-August through May)
