Animal Care Technician II

We are looking for a Animal Care Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Dixon, CA.

In the Animal Care Technician II role, you will work with our research animals to ensure they are well cared for, including:

  • In this role you will monitor daily rodent animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations utilizing an assigned tablet device.
  • Perform rodent animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
  • Utilize cage change program schedule and documentation using company issued tablet devices.
  • Maintain accurate records of rodent animal breeding, health, and housing.
  • You may also be involved in maintaining and following breeding/weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels.
  • You may also assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of rodents as needed including receiving, inspection and housing incoming animals.
  • Use applicable software for the tracking of animals including census and generation of cage cards.
  • Provide daily service to the researchers to ensure study animals receive medicated diet and/or water and any other special housing requests outlined in their study protocol.
  • Direct communication and interaction may be required between employee and researcher.
  • Perform a variety of technical procedures on rodents as needed.

The ideal candidate will possess a High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required; BA/BS in animal or life sciences preferred. ALAT Certification preferred and a one plus years directly related rodent laboratory animal experience required.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the  specific education and experience listed above.

 

The pay range for this position is $21.80 to $26.70 USD per hour.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
