College of Law IT Manager/ Information Technologist IV/S

The College of Law IT Manager will be responsible for IT planning, implementation, and operations to ensure IT Services capacity, effectiveness, and quality across the unit.

Reporting to the Interim MSU IT VP & CIO with accountability to the College of Law, the IT Manager will primarily perform the following duties:

  • Oversee all IT projects, IT operations, and IT staff supporting technology services for the College of Law.
  • Participate in matrix management and collaboration with partner in the College of Law MSU IT and across campus to ensure reliable, resilient and effective delivery of IT services.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure operation of the College of Law specific procedures in line with specialized environments to prevent disruption to 24/7/365 work schedules.
  • Identify, implement remediation's in response to gaps in service to maintain a high level of service and availability.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and attends to all vendor technical and contractual needs.
  • Work with the College of Law Supporting and Supervising Audio Visual & Instructional Technologies
  • Work with the College of Law and MSU IT senior leadership to remain in alignment with both the College of Law and MSU IT strategic goals, standards, and practices.
  • Work with the College of Law and MSU IT communications teams to disseminate prudent information to College faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Work with the College of Law and MSU IT fiscal officers to prepare and maintain the College of Law IT budget, ensuring appropriate expenditures and funding throughout the fiscal year
  • Review and recommend personnel actions in conjunction with the College of Law and MSU IT human resources team.
  • Serve as the connection point between the College of Law and MSU IT through MSU ITs Interim VP and CIO.
  • Participate on the MSU IT Federated IT leadership team, providing input into the strategic direction and operation of Federated IT.
  • Lead a focus on resource management and staff growth to ensure project, operational, and staff success.
  • Maintain currency in both higher education and technology fields through continuous learning. Staying informed on both the College of Law and technology industry trends.

Manage the planning, evaluation, budget, administration, operations and stewardship of IT services offerings for the College of Law including establishment of technology direction, coordination of technology activities and projects, vendor management, resource management, and sustainability. Supervise and professionally develop the College of Law Technical Team to implement and operate IT services that range from proven commodity to specialized cutting edge in support of the College of Law division needs and goals. Collaborate with the College of Law leadership and stakeholders to identify and implement commodity, new or improved IT services to meet current or emerging needs. Jointly collaborate with the College of Law and MSU IT leadership to align with the College of Law operational strategic goals, as well as MSU IT standards, practices, and services. Serve as the College of Law liaison to MSU IT to leverage shared IT service offerings and as a key leaders in the College of Law Services leadership team. Organize, document, and facilitate communication regarding IT service support, change, and other impacts with the College of Law stakeholders and staff. Process improvement planning and implementation, documenting and archiving.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; more than eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed, including experience overseeing large, complex or critical information technology projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Managing multiple IT teams delivering technology services and support
  • Mentoring and coaching staff, including performing review and planning professional development

  • Demonstrating skills necessary to support higher education, learning and research, including coordinating stakeholder input and management of user experience
