About the Position:

Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) performs a various tasks relating to transportation project impacts on air quality. The Senior Environmental Scientist Specialist prepares professional environmental technical reports (air), works closely with appropriate agencies to help develop Best Management Practices, reviews district Plans, Specification, and Estimates (PS&E) packages, and prepares non-standard specifications, provides compliance with regional and project-level conformity requirements with transportation plans, programs, and projects concerning the Federal Clean Air Act, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The Environmental Scientist provides technical oversight for studies for Local Agency projects, prepares task orders, and manages reviews and evaluates technical studies and reports prepared by consultants. The Environmental Scientist may also develop and monitor mitigation measures related to air quality, prepare portions of general environmental documents, participate/ present in Interagency Consultation meetings, and provide technical support. The incumbent provides leadership in duties that include that include the department interests relating to our environment : 1) compliance with regional and project-level conformity requirements; 2) compliance with transportation plans, programs, and projects in relation to the Federal Clean Air Act, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA); 3) integration of environmental planning and transportation planning; and 4) identification of evolving policy issues and their implications of the Department.
