Job Duty Location:
BALTIMORE, MD OR WASHINGTON, DC METRO AREA. NOTE: THESE ARE NOT REMOTE POSITIONS.

COMMUTING DISTANCE AS OF THE APPOINTMENT DATE.

The incumbent serves as an Attorney-Adviser in the Office of Appellate Operations, within the Office of Analytics, Review and Oversight, and performs duties including: analyzing, researching, formulating and drafting comprehensive recommended actions/decisions for Appeals Council review; and acting on requests for review of hearing decisions, and dismissal orders issued by Administrative Law Judges, in claims filed under Titles II and XVI of the Social Security Act.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify, you must be a U.S. Citizen, possess a law degree, and currently be an active member in good standing of the bar. In addition, you must meet one of the following requirements:
– A LL.B. or J.D. and at least 1 year of professional legal experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or higher in the Federal service.
– A second professional law degree (LL.M.) which requires one full year of graduate study.
– A J.D. or LL.B. and superior law student work.

SALARY & ADVANCEMENT
This position has promotion potential to the GS-12 and competitive promotion potential to the GS-13.

2024 Federal Grade Levels & Salaries for Baltimore/DC Metro areas:
➢ GS-11: $82,764 - $107,590 per year
➢ Promotion potential to GS-12
➢ Telework eligible: Yes – as determined by agency policy
