Help people with developmental disabilities become independent

On My Own of Michigan is a nonprofit making independent living possible for people with developmental disabilities.

Through our unique blend of skill-building experiences, social activities, and personalized support, more than 100 people with developmental disabilities (our most ever!) had the support they needed to build and maintain their independence in 2023. 

Join our community of dedicated volunteers to help our members with developmental disabilities achieve their dreams.

We have volunteer openings in our:

• Skill Building Program: Skill Building Program volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, pass a background check, and be available to help us with at least one night or weekend in-person activity each month.
   
• Independence College: Independence College volunteers will serve as peer mentors and must be 18 - 32 years of age, pass a background check, and be available to engage socially with our students 1:1 or in small groups at least once every-other-week.
