Data Technician (LSS)

Job Summary: 

Flint Community Schools, an urban public-school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families. 

The Data Technician is responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of all data entry as required for state and federal compliance of special education records and pupil accounting requirements. The position is responsible for prioritizing and performing various technical functions, supporting student-centered activities, staffing, onboarding, and district-wide initiatives while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and confidentiality as applicable. Responsible for the accurate and timely submission of all required Special Education data, maintaining accurate and confidential data files. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Respond to requests for Social Security Disability verification, GHS, and Department of Corrections. 
  • Responds to all FOIA request as it relates to special education and/or the Office of Civil Rights. 
  • Must be familiar with Catamaran (The State Special Education Compliance and reporting data system) and able to upload evidence of compliance. 
  • To run and provide discipline and attendance reports from the district’s student information system (Synergy).
  • Work in collaboration with the pupil accounting department to align and reconcile FTEs and LSS count information. 
  • Management of provider caseloads and perform annual student move ups. 
  • Management of EdPlan user passwords. 
  • Participates in interviewing Learning Support Services candidates. 
  • Onboarding and training of all new special education staff as it relates to our student information systems. 
  • Assists with maintaining Learning Support Services staff roster. 
  • Collects and submits payroll for current central office special education staff. 
  • Enters invoices for all special education contracted employees. 
  • Works with enrollment to ensure enrolling Special education students are place in compliance with their IEP. 
  • Runs and maintains special education transportation report. 
  • Monitors and provides reminders regarding Medicaid Monthly Summaries. 
  • Monitors IEP timeline requirements and sends staff updates.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities: 

Data 

  • Assign students to case managers and teams as required by IDEA and MARSE. 
  • Generate New Enrollments for incoming students. 
  • Remove students from database upon withdrawal from FCS. 
  • Monitor case load totals and adjust as necessary to maintain IDEA and MARSE compliance. 
  • Generate Section 52 and Section 53 worksheets for pupil count submission. 
  • Validate, record and report section 52 and 53 students. 
  • Balance special education count by disability, program, grade, and building.

Compliance 

  • Collect necessary documentation requested by MDE/OSE or US Department of Education regarding state and/or Civil Rights complaints filed by parents or stakeholders. 
  • Submit evidence of compliance to Catamaran (State monitoring website). 
  • Maintain records of corrective action as directed by MDE/OSE. 
  • Maintain compliance timelines for REED’s, IEP’s and MDR’s. 

Qualifications: 

Education: HS Diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate degree or evidence of equivalent years of professional experience and/or professional development required.

 Experience: Minimum three (3) years data entry experience required. School-based data systems experience preferred.
