KCMSF Communications and Marketing VISTA

Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) is a government program and branch of AmeriCorps that places volunteers in nonprofit community organizations where they will complete capacity building projects over the course of one year with the goal of reducing and eliminating poverty in the United States.

AmeriCorps mission is “to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based direct national and community service.”

The Kansas City Medical Society Foundation is the charitable arm of the Kansas City Medical Society. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we operate the Wy Jo Care and Metro Care charitable care programs that deliver over $8 million worth of donated specialty care to uninsured patients each year. In addition, we carry out programs advancing the overall health and health equity of people across greater Kansas City. WyJo Care and Metro Care arrange donated specialty medical care for the uninsured and underinsured. Kansas patients go through WyJo Care and Missouri patients go through Metro Care. Patients are typically referred to Wy Jo Care and Metro Care by safety net clinics where they are receiving primary care. Patients are screened for eligibility and once found eligible, they are matched to a donated service within the specialty that they need. The Vista will help the KCMS Foundation create branding that enhances the knowledge base of hospitals, health systems, medical professionals, and corporations. The goal will be to create awareness that leads to increased specialty donations and support for our programs.
