In accordance with MCL 211.7cc, the Michigan Department of Treasury is responsible for auditing Principal Residence Exemption (PRE) claims in select counties. From this audit, PRE denials are issued to taxpayers by the Department. This position reviews, analyzes and evaluates appeal information to determine if sufficient evidence exists to reinstate the exemption or allow a partial exemption. This position must thoroughly analyze the complex appeal documents to determine PRE eligibility in accordance with MCL 211.7cc, MCL 21 l.7dd, and Departmental policies. Based on a thorough analysis of various documents, the decision to overturn or continue to deny the PRE is made which affects whether a taxpayer is responsible for additional taxes and interest charges. This position provides the written analysis which is used in the informal conference process and with appeals submitted to the Michigan Tax Tribunal. As changes to the statutes and interpretations occur, this position must analyze the changes to ensure that the review and any applicable procedures are correctly applied, and appropriate changes are made. This position is also responsible for contacting taxpayers to review the determination reached in the PRE review process. This position also reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations related to interest waiver requests under MCL 21l.7cc(8). Also, this position will work closely with the Unit Manager in performing other PRE related duties including, but not limited to, reviewing work of other staff, assisting with phone coverage, handling complex phone calls and correspondence, etc. 

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
