Summary of Position:

Administer and direct the activities and employees of the following areas through coordination, supervision, leadership, and direction: Fiscal Analysis, Cash Management and Investments, Purchasing, Accounting Department, Grant Accounting, Financial Services, Payroll Office, Business Operations, and Safety, Health, Environmental, and Risk Management.

Required Education:

Bachelor degree in Accounting/Finance or Business or related degree

Required Work Experience:

Six years of accounting and management experience in a complex organization with large scale enterprise systems for accounting, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, and fixed assets; computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications or relevant Public Accounting experience. 
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others has expertise in implementing sound financial policies and practices with diverse clients.
Experience in hiring, managing, evaluating and mentoring staff as well as a strong sense of accountability and stewardship.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:

Master degree in Business or Certified Public Accountant. Working knowledge of fund accounting and GASB.
Financial management experience in an academic environment or non-profit environment.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Monitor the University's controlled financial results of operations.
Review the preparation of the University's annual financial report.
Coordinate the annual external audit with the University's external auditors.
Evaluate the University's system of internal accounting controls; make recommendations for changes to internal control processes; and implement. 
Recommend financial policies designed to protect the University's assets.
Work in collaboration with the Budget Office and the Safety,........
Understand the University's accounting and budgeting processes for each fund group.
Provide direction to the Accounting Services, Purchasing, Student Financial Services, Investments and Treasury Management.
In consultation with the Vice President of Admin & Finance, provide management with financial reporting that compares actual operating performance to budgeted performance. 
Manage financial, payroll, and billing software systems. Migrate to electronic processing systems and reporting whenever practical. 
Ensure the filing of all federal and state tax forms.
In consultation with the Vice President of Admin & Finance, provide financial and business advice to senior management. 
Serve as part of the Administration & Finance Leadership Team
Provide an environment for personal and professional advancement for staff in the Finance area..
Provide Charter School financial oversight in conjunction with the Charter School Office.
Supervise of delegate supervision and management of all staff within assigned areas.
Provide leadership for and promote a culture of customer service. 
In consultation with the Vice President of Admin & Finance, streamline processes for effective and efficient, user friendly services.
Work with the VP as needed with the Ferris Foundation for their accounting needs.
Ensure a shared governance model in assigned programs and activities. 
Supports, promotes & develops University student enrollment & retention initiatives. 
Engages in behaviors to ensure a welcoming & inclusive environment where students and employees feel a sense of Belonging. 
Works to hire, retain and promote a diverse faculty and staff. 
Lead the Universities internal and external financial reporting.

Marginal Duties/Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
Reports to the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.
Responsible for the direct supervision of assigned staff.
Assess the accurate recording of all of the University's financial transactions.
Demonstrated ability to affect quality improvement techniques.
Demonstrated ability to develop and foster strong interpersonal relationships.
Interpret financial results of operations, balance sheet data and financial ratio analyses.
Promote culture of excellent customer service.
Provide leadership for the finance functions.
Successfully interact with faculty and staff at all levels.
Supervise others in the efficient performance of their duties.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administration, and stakeholders to achieve university goals and has expertise in implementing sound financial policies and practices with diverse clients across campus. 
Experience in hiring, managing, evaluating and mentoring staff as well as a strong sense of accountability and stewardship for University resources.
Financial management experience in an academic environment.
