Job Summary:

 

The Division of Extension and Engagement's Family and Community Health Program invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, Assistant Professor of Practice position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.

 

This Assistant Professor of Practice (PoP) position is a member of the statewide team of the OSU Extension Family and Community Health (FCH) program affiliated with the College of Health (COH). This position provides program leadership and scholarship focused on supporting improved behavioral health (mental health and substance use) outcomes for Oregon youth and communities.

 

The primary work assignments demonstrate a balance of competence and accomplishment in community-related practice, non-credit teaching and educational development, scholarship, and service to the institution and profession.

 

Extension FCH and the COH align toward a common vision of lifelong health and well-being for individuals, families, and communities in Oregon. This affiliation brings national distinction among land-grant universities and schools/programs of public health because of the unique, built-in capacity for impactful outreach through OSU Extension Service FCH. Extension FCH integrates an interdisciplinary, public health focus on health equity and well-being across the lifespan.

 

Position Purpose The PoP provides leadership to the Extension FCH programs focusing on community behavioral health, with an emphasis on youth. Specifically, the faculty member is expected to maintain a robust portfolio of programming in service to the college vision and the Oregon statewide health improvement plan called Healthier Together Oregon (https://healthiertogetheroregon.org/).The faculty member will be expected to develop appropriate specialized expertise to support statewide FCH programming. Collaborative work across disciplines, organizational units, and Extension program areas is expected.

 

The PoP is expected to build on and contribute to furthering the body of behavioral health work that has emerged within the Division of Extension and Engagement and College of Health in recent years, such as, but not limited to, https://extension.oregonstate.edu/coast-forest-mental-health-promotion-rural-oregon and https://extension.oregonstate.edu/farm-ranch-stress-assistance-network.

 

The academic home for the position is in the College of Health, with the specific school (either the School of Public Health and Nutrition, the School of Human Development and Family Sciences, or the School of Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences) to be determined within one year of hire. This position reports to the Extension Program Leader for Family and Community Health/Associate Dean for Extension and Engagement.

• Doctorate in public health, human sciences, behavioral health, or a related field, completed on or before date of hire.

• Professional contributions to or leadership of applied research or practice efforts to promote community health and well-being for youth and/or adults.

• Demonstrated contributions to teaching, designing and/or developing educational programs.

• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

• Record of contribution to or potential to secure external funding for practice or applied research efforts to promote community health.

• Demonstrated commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.

• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with other professionals and volunteers.

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

 

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

• Familiarity with and stated commitment to contributing to recent Oregon State University scholarship and practice towards promoting mental health and preventing substance use and tragic deaths.

• Experience partnering with multi/bicultural or multi/bilingual communities to promote health.

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
