Communications Manager

Job Title: Communications Manager

Supervised By: Sr. Director of Development

Hours & Status:  Full-time, exempt; 8am-5pm with some evenings

Salary & Benefits: $50,000-$55,000; generous PTO; 11 Paid holidays plus a float holiday; health, vision & dental benefits, HSA/FSA with employer match; Simple IRA with employer contribution

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Communications Manager holds a key function in helping communicate Safe Haven Ministries’ vision, commitment, and mission with our community and team members. In this role, the Communications Manager will set and lead the strategy for all organizational and donor communications. This includes creating and supporting social media and website content, event communications and writing and producing engaging collateral. The role will work within the development team and receive support from volunteers and vendors as needed. 

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW  

Safe Haven Ministries - a nonprofit organization located in Grand Rapids, Michigan - believes in a multi-faceted approach to serving victims/survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking and preventing domestic violence and exploitation in our community. Safe Haven offers comprehensive residential and non-residential services; confidential emergency shelter for individuals and families fleeing domestic violence; psycho-educational support groups; individual case management and advocacy; and primary prevention training and outreach for the entire community.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES  

Communications – Responsible for managing and driving the implementation of an effective outreach and  communication campaign to educate and cultivate diverse community support, including:  

  • Develop, manage and execute the agency’s annual communication plan, including, but not limited to, agency website, newsletters, email communication, brochures, event collateral, sponsorship packages, annual report, and social media  
  • Effectively curate social media and website content 
  • Manage annual appeals processes, utilizing communications strategies to reach annual fundraising goals
  • Create and distribute press releases and support crisis communications for the organization
  • Identify opportunities for trauma-informed story-telling that reflects the mission, vision and values of Safe Haven 
  • Develop and nurture relationships with local media
  • Keep up-to-date on emerging communication technologies that could help promote and support the mission of Safe Haven Ministries
  • Collaborate with agency staff and across departmental teams to understand the survivor centered commitment that informs community and donor engagement 

Administrative duties – Serve as the liaison to all communications and events such as:

  • Provide monthly communication and events report to the Sr. Director of Development and the Leadership Team
  • Provide support to Sr. Director of Development as needed and other duties as assigned
  • Provide the Development team and other teams across the organization with updates and reports as needed

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED OR PREFERRED  

  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • 3-6 years’ experience managing and executing across multi-channel communication strategies
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines  
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals strategically and oversee detailed execution
  • Creative and proactive problem solver 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently & be flexible on the job
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with various internal and external constituents
  • Ability to successfully utilize donor management software (Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar) and canva pro for design and implementation of marketing materials
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality required
