Interior Designer Intern

Job Summary:

The Intern Designer Intern will complete projects to assist the design team’s work and provide career training/exposure. The Design Intern will create or modify home drawings, or work on special projects to support architecture and interior design, our customer we serve, and other department such as Customer Service, Sales, Development, Estimating & Purchasing and Construction.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with Interior and Architectural Design in weekly assignments or special projects that contribute to the customer experience provided by the team.
  • Assist the design team in production work to provide Selections and plan updates to personalize drawings for customers which the Architecture team sends out with Selections ready for permit and construction for 25-30 new homes per month from our master plans and selection options.
  • Conceptualize collaborative design to contribute to home plans and options, help create supporting details (Insearch updates), review project specifics/limits to understand parameters. Assist in design brainstorming, feedback, production, and edits as needed.
  • Assemble mood boards for home marketing listings or to save customer selections.
  • Provide, or enhance design or marketing images or Home Staging services as requested.
  • Enter design selections from customer selection worksheets into the system which produces Selections that communicate to trades/vendors/construction. (with review by Design Director/Interior Design Manager).
  • Engage with Interior Design and Customer Service teams to serve our customers and connect with Sales, Architecture and Estimating to evolve our total home planning and delivery experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the team as required by project and take ownership of work done for a project through all phases of design, permit, construction, and warranty as a contributing teammate when called upon.
  • Assist in special project completion, and support work during busy projection weeks.
  • Stay up to date in knowledge of trends/changes in home design to fuel creativity and bring innovative ideas to the design team.

Education and Experience:

To succeed in this role, you should meet the following qualifications:

  • Express interest in gaining professional experience in the field of residential design.
  • Experience in residential architectural or interior design fields through drawing and design classes or other learning.
  • General knowledge of AutoCAD, prefer experience in AutoCAD Architecture, Revit or other BIM based software and able to read home construction drawings.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is a plus.
  • Exceptional and clear communication skills to be positively attentive to our team, managers, and directors.
  • Presentation skills and an ability to engage with customers with knowledge of home design.
  • Self-lead attention to detail to deliver high quality accurate work outcomes in digital, virtual, and physical world environments.
  • Ability to project manage, multi-task, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Demonstrate positive attitude, creativity, flexibility, assertiveness, autonomy, and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.
