Social Services Intern

Objective:

The Social Services Intern will work closely with social workers and other professionals in the AmeriCorps Seniors department to gain practical experience and contribute to service delivery. This internship will provide hands-on learning opportunities and experience serving older adults in a supportive environment. The AmeriCorps Seniors programs focus on enhancing the well-being of 55+ community members by connecting them to opportunities to volunteer at local schools and non-profits and ensuring they have the resources needed to support their volunteer service. 

Responsibilities:

The following list represents a range of possible activities. Specific responsibilities will align with the skills, experience, and interests of the individual in the position: 

  • Client Support: Assist in providing direct support to 55+ clients, including but not limited to resource referrals and completing applications. 
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with Senior Neighbors policies and regulatory standards.
  • Community Outreach: Participate in outreach efforts, including organizing and attending events and workshops. 
  • Advocacy: Advocate for clients' needs with relevant agencies and organizations.
  • Research: Research social issues, policies, and resources relevant to the older adult population served by the Senior Neighbors.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and organizing files.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and supervision to enhance skills and knowledge in the field of social services.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related social services field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.

Duration and Schedule:

This is a stipend internship opportunity offering 12-15 hours per week with a flexible schedule. A monthly stipend of $500 will be paid based on a minimum of 12 hours per week. The days and hours of agency operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Supervision:

The Social Services Intern will receive supervision and guidance from professionals in the organization, who will provide support, feedback, and opportunities for learning and growth.
