Air Resources Supervisor I

The Emissions Certification and Compliance Division (ECCD) is seeking an Air Resources Supervisor I to manage the Heavy-Duty In-Use Compliance Section (HDIUC). The Section is responsible for managing and administering in-use compliance program activities for on- and off-road heavy-duty vehicles and engines and advanced technology engines. HDIUC is primarily involved in reducing excess emissions from heavy-duty vehicles and engines through the implementation and administration of the Heavy-Duty In Use Compliance Programs and the In-Use Vehicle and Engine Recall Program. The Section also conducts special projects to screen for unapproved auxiliary emission control devices (AECDs) and defeat devices to identify if vehicles are not as certified.
 

Under the general direction of the Chief of the In-Use Vehicle Programs Branch, the Manager would be responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of the Section, including the development and implementation of test plans, oversight of manufacturer conducted in-use testing, resolution of discovered in-use compliance issues and carrying out special studies related to the in-use performance of heavy-duty vehicles. Working Conditions

 

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

• Requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods.

• Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.)

• Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.

Will involve some work near machinery, on- and off-road motor vehicles or engines.
