What We Do:

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

 

What We Need YOU To Do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at our Central District Office in Franklin County.

As environmental specialist, you will act as the Site Coordinator for those sites assigned by the Environmental Supervisor or Manager, and you will prepare and/or review no further action submittals, operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements and plans, urban setting designations, consolidated standards permits and other associated permits, authorizations, and submittals in accordance with the state and Voluntary Action Program (VAP).

You will prepare and review site assessments, preliminary assessments, site inspections, and hazard ranking documents associated with the initial screening and prioritization of environmental releases from hazardous waste sites. You are also going to determine the relative priority of each site for future response actions.

As environmental specialist, you will conduct compliance inspections and complaint investigations for the hazardous waste program and inspect hazardous waste handling facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations and RCRA permit requirements. You will also serve as a witness for the Ohio EPA and Attorney General’s Office as required by litigation resulting from these duties. You will participate in enforcement meetings and settlement negotiations associated with these duties.

Here are the high points:

  • Act as District Site Coordinator for hazardous waste sites, brownfield sites, and voluntary action program (VAP) sites as assigned by the Environmental Supervisor or Manager.
  • Prepare, review, and/or implement work plans, quality assurance plans, sampling plans, reports, and technical memoranda.
  • Ensure field activities are conducted in accordance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Review plans, figures, and specifications for construction and operation and maintenance of remedial activities at hazardous waste sites.
  • Prepare and/or review site assessment/inspection reports and hazard ranking documents to screen sites and prioritize response actions.
  • Conduct compliance inspections and complaint investigations for the hazardous waste program.
