Research Assistant

Position Description:

This Research Assistant (RA) will work alongside community members in Lawrence, MA to evaluate the implementation of a whole-of-community intervention addressing physical activity, nutrition and breastfeeding support to address health disparities. The Research Assistant will work closely with faculty member Eleanor Shonkoff and the Lawrence Mayor’s Health Task Force coordinator. The position will be hybrid, with a mix of in-person and remote work. The RA will gain valuable experience conducting community-based research in a local city and may have opportunities for scientific research presentations (e.g., poster) or paper publications, which can be great experiences for a professional resume.  


 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create tracking and monitoring systems (e.g., Google sheets) and project management tools (e.g., Trello board or Gantt charts)
  • Organize monthly meetings sessions (e.g., Zoom and calendar invites).
  • Enter data (e.g., REDCap)
  • Respond to email inquiries
  • Undergo CITI training for ethical treatment of human subjects research
  • Participate in recruitment activities such as handing out flyers, talking to bodega owners, contacting hospital administrators or creating social media posts 


 

Position Requirements: 

Interest in public health or community research; flexible with weekly schedule 


 

Required Skill Set: 

Exceptional organizational skills, enthusiastic and positive attitude, advanced experience with Word, Excel, Google Drive and Google Calendar, professional demeanor, highly self-motivated.


 

Prepares Students for Careers in: 

Public health research, psychology or health behavior research, survey administration, university administration, community health education, etc. Career goals will be discussed with the faculty supervisor to determine transferable skills to achieve future career goals.
