Conservation Agronomist Intern-Summer of 2024

 

Attention all agriculture and natural resources degree programs! Looking for an exciting internship opportunity this summer? Look no further! The Outagamie County Land Conservation Department is seeking a seasonal intern to help with soil and water conservation projects. 

As an intern, you will provide assistance to agronomy staff with implementing soil health grants, assist with the installation, maintenance, and data collection of Soil Health demonstration plots, assist with mapping of Nutrient Management Plans, and assist with general maintenance and operation of Departmental farm machinery. 

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in your field of study while making a positive impact on the environment. The internship runs from approximately May 20, 2024, but could offer a flexible start date. The position reports directly to the County Conservationist and is located at Land Conservation on Brewster Street in Appleton.

 Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide assistance to agronomy staff with implementing soil health grants.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and data collection of Soil Health demonstration plots.
  • Assist with mapping of Nutrient Management Plans.
  • Assist with general maintenance and operation of Departmental farm machinery.
  • Other support duties as assigned.

 

 Education/Certifications/Experience Requirements:

 

  • Candidate should be enrolled in a degree program related to agriculture and/or natural resources. Agronomy  or soils coursework preferred.
  • Must possess a valid State of Wisconsin driver's license

 

 Required or Preferred Skills:

 

  • Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience maintaining/operating farm machinery.
  • Experience operating pickup trucks and trailers.
  • UTV/ATV certification.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain regular attendance.
