Administrative Specialist 27

We are seeking a dedicated Administrative Assistant within the Cemetery division of the Parks and Recreation Department to help families during difficult times and ensure the smooth operation of our cemetery facilities.


Special Requirements and Training

 

  • Must be able to be placed under the terms of the City of Lansing’s blanket bond
  • Must obtain and maintain a Notary Public Certificate within six (6) months of acquiring this position. 

 

Qualifications for this position consist of:

  • High School Diploma or GED AND
  • A minimum of three and one-half (3 ½ ) years of comprehensive and proficient office experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Exceptional customer service required.
  • Proficiency in organizing and sustaining a burial records management system is highly preferred.

     Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Schedules and meets with bereaved families and individuals to answer inquires in an efficient and sensitive manner to show gravesites and assist with selecting sites and providing information as requested.
  • Utilizes familiarity with Cemetery laws for the state of Michigan and City of Lansing Cemetery rules.
  • Maintains all records required by law of Burial Rights and individual burials.
  • Receives and process burial orders received by funeral directors.
  • Complies monthly reports, including filing and updating various cemetery records with includes updating cemetery records to electronic files.
