U.S. Army Corp of Engineers serves as the civil engineering firm to the U.S. Government, with no requirement to enlist in military service. We are seeking a Chemistry Intern to join our team for the summer with the opportunity for further interning and potential full time job offer upon graduation. This internship offers a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of chemistry, learning from skilled professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly meetings for various projects where the USACE project team discusses the progress and execution of our environmental remediation projects
  • Provide answers to chemistry related questions/issues by looking through project plans and documents to track down correct information
  • Learn about the various programs that we support including FUSRAP (radiological cleanups), FUDS (former defense sites cleanups), PFAS cleanup project support, NASA project support, and EPA superfund site cleanup.

Assist a senior chemist with:

  • Drafting document review checklists based on USACE guidance
  • Drafting an audit checklist for in-house sampling events based on USACE guidance and senior chemist input
  • Learning how to work with environmental data in MS Access
  • Drafting language for radiochemistry data review based on USACE guidance and senior chemist input

Who may apply:

Candidates should be pursuing a degree in chemistry.

Candidates for this posting will be considered for GS 3 or GS 4 based on the following:

  • To qualify at the GS-03 grade level, applicants must have completed one full academic year of post-high school study relevant to the position/series.
  • To qualify at the GS-04 grade level, applicants must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study or have an associate's degree relevant to the position/series.

You must be a U.S. citizen.

This job does not require enlistment and is a civilian role located in the Buffalo, NY office.

GS-4 Step 1: $17.76/hr
