Description: The AmeriCorps Community Training for Overdose Rescue (ACT) program is currently recruiting new Overdose Rescue Trainers for our Fall 2024 cohort. ACT is an AmeriCorps service program and part of Wayne State University's Center for Urban Studies. ACT aims to reduce opioid-overdose deaths in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties through community education efforts, mainly by hosting overdose first-aid trainings for the general public where participants learn how to recognize an opioid overdose, use Narcan nasal spray (a medicine that can reverse opioid overdose and is administered with an easy-to-use nasal spray device) and give hands-only CPR.

This is a 6-month, 20 hr/week paid service experience. As part of our program, AmeriCorps members serving with ACT can expect to:

  • Gain hands-on health education experience
  • Build skills for their future
  • Network with public health groups and organizations
  • Serve on a diverse, energetic team
  • Earn a living allowance of $5,400 distributed evenly throughout their term
  • Receive an education award of $1,956.35 when they successfully complete their term

This AmeriCorps service position is a rewarding opportunity for students, professionals, and anyone who wants to make a difference in our community. ACT welcomes candidates of all backgrounds, and we provide extensive training and professional development for incoming members.

Our Fall 2024 term will start on August 19, 2024 and continue through March 30, 2025.

Service Scheduling Note:  ACT is a mostly in-person program, with some work-from-home service activities. Team members should expect to complete tasks in both virtual and in-person settings, with the majority of their hours taking place in person . This means typically 8-11 served in-person each week, mostly between M-Th, 10am-3:30pm, either at CUS offices or in community settings.
