Air Pollution Specialist

The Light-Duty Testing Section "B" (LDTSB) is seeking applicants for an Air Pollution Specialist (APS) to carry out assignments related to the activities described below with a positive attitude, a high degree of initiative, and team collaboration in generating mobile source emissions data at the state-of-the-art Southern California Headquarters facility.

The LDTSB supports the Agency's vehicle testing programs in areas of certification, in-use compliance, regulatory development, enforcement, and emissions inventory and research using four separate test cells for light- and medium-duty vehicles testing. The incumbent's essential duties include ensuring testing equipment readiness, verifying that test procedures are followed throughout testing processes, and that the test data generated is defensible and compliant with governing regulations. Additionally, the APS is responsible for providing technical guidance and assistance to project clients during test plan development, review, and execution ensuring that all testing requirements are satisfied. The APS is expected to analyze situations, make decisions, and recommend effective courses of action to handle situations appropriately to meet project deadlines and objectives.

Working Conditions

  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Duties require use of hearing protection. 
  • Works at elevated heights or near fast-moving machinery or traffic. 
  • Safety footwear required when working on-site.  Must be able to work underneath a vehicle in order to restrain test vehicles on a dynamometer and disconnect/connect electrical and vapor lines.
