This position serves as the Advanced System Operations Controller performing advanced computer operation duties, including extensive monitoring of data processing environments and multi-processing schedules and systems for assigned client agencies using command vocabulary and accessing software such as TSO, MVS, and CA-SCHEDULER. In this role, you will investigate, resolve, and report complex scheduling or job stream errors using advanced job control language knowledge and provide resource allocation management to maximize production. Essential Functions

30% Under general supervision, serves as the Advanced System Operations Controller for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT):

 

  • Performs advanced system control functions for assigned agency’s schedules in the Input Services Unit.
  • Performs advanced computer operation duties, including extensive monitoring of data processing environments and multi-processing schedules and systems for assigned client agencies using command vocabulary and accessing software including, but not limited to, Time Sharing Options/Interactive System Productivity Facility (TSO/ISPF), multiple virtual storage (MVS), CA-SCHEDULER, and Document Direct/Mobius.
  • Escalates more complex situations and/or changes to lead worker.
  • Enters commands to submit, edit, and track job processing to completion within an appropriate timeframe.
  • Utilizes Extra/Blue Zone in performance of duties

 

25% Investigates, resolves, and reports complex scheduling or job stream errors using advanced job control language (JCL) knowledge and provides resource allocation management to maximize production: 

 

  • Reports errors and inconsistencies to supervisory staff.
  • Creates, monitors, and maintains logs and shift documentation on SharePoint
  • Modifies or establishes documentation for new production runs.
  • Modifies or suggests operational improvements to management.

 

15% Works closely with technical personnel including applications and programming staff daily to correct job, schedule, and software/hardware problems or errors and reports on status and outcome: 

 

  • Reviews complex programmer instructions and advises programmers of production run procedures and potential corrections to production run errors or identifies problem resolution and applies appropriate fixes.
  • Cross trains to new systems and multi-platform schedules.

 

10% Stays current with new rules and procedures in all areas of Input Services:

 

  • Assists data processing lead workers in training lower-level staff.
  • Assists with transitions between shifts to ensure coverage

Essential Functions (Continued)

10% Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field: 

 

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques and procedures.
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.

 

5% In the absence of the lead worker, assumes duties and responsibilities including assigning, reviewing, and controlling work assignments on request: 

 

  • Provides assistance to co-workers and advises supervisor concerning work performance.

 

5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. 
2. Requires three (3) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Technician level.
OR 
1.    Requires two (2) years of college including coursework in the data processing field.

Preferred Qualifications

1.    Extensive knowledge of Input Services procedures.
2.    Two (2) years of professional experience with Job Control Language (JCL).  
3.    Two (2) years of professional experience using Extra/Blue Zone.
4.    Two (2) years of professional experience with TSO/ISPF, MVS, CA-Scheduler and Document Direct/Mobius.
5.    Two (2) years of professional experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint.
6.    Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
7.    Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients and others.
8.    Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.

Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
