Healthcare Intern

Position Overview

The I-PASS Patient Safety Institute prides itself on delivering efficient, effective solutions to healthcare organizations to implement a standard handoff communication method (I-PASS). We’re currently seeking a Healthcare Intern to join our versatile and growing company for the summer. The ideal candidate will have an interest in patient safety and quality improvement with experience in performing comprehensive literature reviews. The primary responsibility of the Healthcare Intern will be to conduct an I-PASS literature review, build a database to categorize articles, and develop client summary sheets.  These resources will support providing excellent customer service to our network of client sites and support the needs of our Implementation Team. This role will regularly collaborate internally with the operations team in a fast-paced environment. The Healthcare Intern is a remote position but requires residency within the United States with one on-site opportunity. This role will report to the Vice President, Clinical Strategy and Transformation.

Time & Travel Requirement

  • 30 hours / week
  • Travel once for on-site shadowing opportunity 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Program support
    • Perform comprehensive I-PASS literature review
    • Collaborate with the VP, Clinical Strategy and Transformation and VP, Client Operations to determine appropriate filters for searchable database
    • Create searchable database and populate results of the I-PASS literature review
    • Populate I-PASS Client Summary Sheets through review of customer implementation items

Competencies & Required Skills

  • Project Planning – Initiating, planning, and executing assigned program support project. Developing suggested monitoring and control plan to ensure ongoing publications are incorporated into the searchable database.
  • Data Analysis – Reviewing published article findings to appropriately categorize in searchable database. Include key metrics that are appropriate in the Client Summary sheets. 
  • Technical Skills – Expertise in conducting a comprehensive literature review to include I-PASS Study Group and independently published articles
  • Critical Thinking & Discernment – Identifying strengths and weaknesses and finding alternative solutions or approaches to problems through logic and reasoning. 

Qualifications or Equivalent Career Experience

  • Enrolled in a Business Administration, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Business Management (or related field) program
  • Ability to exercise flexibility with prioritization of tasks and job responsibilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with the ability to quickly learn how to use organization-specific platforms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation

  • Hourly rate will be commensurate with education, experience, and skills
  • This is not a benefit-eligible position
