MT- The medical technologist performs proficiently in all phases of laboratory procedure. The medical technologist is directly responsible to the Laboratory Administrative Director, department section coordinator and senior technologists. The Medical Technologist is indirectly responsible to the Laboratory Medical Director.

MLT - The technician performs only those laboratory procedures that require a degree of skill commensurate with the technician’s education, training and technical abilities. Conducts routine tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and performs related duties, following established standards and practices. The technician is directly responsible to the Laboratory Administrative Director and the department coordinator or senior bench technologists. The technician is indirectly responsible to the Laboratory Medical Director.

MT requires

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution. Education meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489 .
  • ASCP Board of Certification
  • MLS/MT preferred but not required for non-traditional applicant

MLT requires

  • Successful completion of 60 semester hours of academic credit in laboratory techniques at an accredited institution or has an associate degree from an accredited institution as a medical laboratory technician which includes courses in chemistry, biology, and medical laboratory techniques; or has a high school diploma and equivalent laboratory experience to meet the standards as stated under CLIA’88.
  • Current Certification is verified upon hire.
  • MLT (ASCP)cm maintenance is required

Current CPR certification.  Must have a valid Illinois Drivers License.
