Job Description

Through this internship you will have hands-on experience teaching students English and other general education subjects (including Math, Social Studies, etc.) based on the United States curriculum, and assisting them to be ready for the GED (General Education Diploma) exam.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare students to be able to complete the GED exam and teach classes according to the set GED curriculum. 
  • Identify varying teaching methods that work best for students who learn differently. 
  • Create and prepare lesson plans appropriate for the different levels of students.
  • Take part in students’ admission and recruitment processes.
  • Assist in developing and improving curriculum. 
  • Compose monthly teaching reports, work activities, to be sent to the project manager. 
  • Regularly update supervisors on academic issues and seek advice before interventions.
  • Promote behaviours that respect students’ dignity and diverse religions, cultures, and customs.
  • Maintain and closely monitor student attendance and progress.

Other Functions

  • Attend training, workshops, and staff and organizational meetings organized by Partners. 
  • Assist with other projects as needed and as assigned by the Project Manager. 
  • Communicate any training needs to your manager or HR leader.

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and TEFL/TESOL certificate required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field OR at least one year experience working/studying in teaching/education related fields preferred.
  • Prior knowledge of the GED curriculum and lesson planning experience. 
  • Fluent in English with excellent reading and writing skills, including report writing skills.
  • Public speaking, communication, and teaching skills. 
  • Leadership ability, interpersonal skills, and the ability to think outside the box. 
  • Proficient in the use of computers including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and digital communication. 
  • Excellent time-management skills, the ability to multi-task and proven organizing and planning skills showing attention to detail.
  • Team player but can work independently; proactive, flexible, patient, and willing to learn.
  • Be prepared to work after hours and on weekends.
  • Ability to travel to and stay in rural, remote areas.
  • Must have a personal laptop computer to use for all work assignments. 
  • Work within a Christian framework with sensitivity to various religious expressions and cultures.
