Quality Assurance Manager

As a Quality Assurance Manager, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and enhancing the laboratory Quality System. Your primary responsibilities include providing Quality Systems training, maintaining the Quality Assurance Manual, managing proficiency testing samples, conducting systems and data audits, and serving as the primary contact for audits with clients and regulatory officials. You will work closely with the Technical Director to approve, develop, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with quality standards. The QA Manager has the authority to accept or reject data and is responsible for resolving data quality and ethical issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the focal point for QA/QC activities, overseeing and/or reviewing QC data.
  • Evaluate data objectively and conduct assessments impartially.
  • Arrange and conduct internal audits of data and the quality system.
  • Monitor corrective actions and notify management of deficiencies.
  • Maintain compliance with the Eurofins Environment Testing South Central Quality System.
  • Participate as a member of the laboratory's senior management team.
  • Act as a technical resource and authority in matters of data quality.
  • Address ethics and data integrity issues as the focal point.
  • Conduct QA training, including Ethics training.
  • Coordinate external audits conducted by clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in performing annual Management Reviews of the Quality System.
  • Review and/or write Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPP) for contracts and proposals.
  • Manage scheduling, ordering, login, and reporting of proficiency testing samples.
  • Monitor and communicate new regulations to the Laboratory Management team.
  • Review and approve laboratory SOPs in conjunction with Laboratory Management.
  • Maintain training records, including Demonstrations of Capability (DOCs).
  • Assist in identifying systematic problems within the laboratory and conduct root cause analysis investigations.
  • Track customer complaints and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee method detection limit and LOQ studies and verifications.
  • Generate and submit monthly QA metrics.
  • Oversee the generation of control charts and control limits, and update reference tables.
  • Perform or arrange calibration of laboratory support equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Five years of environmental testing experience involving both inorganic and organic tests.
  • Two years of QA management experience in an environmental testing laboratory preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques.
  • Familiarity with Statistical principles related to quality control data.
  • Strong understanding of The NELAC Institute’s accreditation requirements and procedures.
  • General knowledge of analytical methods from EPA and APHA Standard Methods for the analysis of water, soil, and wastes.
