Intern, Quality Analytical Technology

Who We Are 

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

SUMMARY:

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. 

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These individuals build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

 

The Quality Analytical Technology (QAT) department is part of the global Quality Science and Technology (QSAT) team within the Technical Operations (TOPs) group and is responsible for the management of analytical method lifecycle, product stability programs, reference standard and critical reagent programs for BioMarin’s clinical and commercial portfolio. The analytical CMC team within QAT is a team of scientists, research associates and analysts supporting the management of the method lifecycles for new and existing products at BioMarin and third-party CMO/CROs and the authoring of key CMC / regulatory documentation throughout the method / product lifecycle.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:

The position will support the management of the QAT project planning and capacity management tools, working with the QAT Technical Manager or designee to build out and maintain the project management tools.  The position will interact with all QAT functional area leaders to gather and track the information required to create and update project plans and track progress through metric reporting.  

In addition, the position will interact with QSAT personnel to provide updates and report progress on activities as part of the Technical Agenda.  

Required Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Experience with project management tools and project management software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera and interface with Power BI or mobile applications.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry

Qualifications/Eligibility:

  • Student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in life science, engineering or computerized systems 
  • Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program.  
  • Must be available to work 40 hours a week
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

In the U.S., the hiring range for this position is $21.00 to $25.00 per hour. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
