Camp Counselor (Special Needs Camp)

We are looking for a compassionate person to work as a Camp Counselor for Easterseals Nebraska, a camp that serves individuals with disabilities.

It doesn't matter if you don't have any experience working with disabilities or at camps. If you the desire to serve, we will train and support you to provide the most epic summer for both yourself and your camper!

This job can be utilized as an internship as well.

Training:

  • May 28 - May 31, in person
  • Located at Schramm State Park in Gretna, NE
  • New staff are coached and mentored and are never expected to ‘wing it.'
  • Our training and coaching program speaks for itself, as the past 3 years we have had between 90 - 100% return rate of our staff!

  • No experience necessary
  • Be physically capable to lift 50lbs with a partner, squat, stand, walk
  • Be CPR/First Aid/AED trained before June 3
  • Be background checked and pass a drug test before May 28

What to expect this summer:

  • June and July schedule (besides training):
    • 4 weeks of Day Camp
      • Monday - Thursday (except one of the weeks ends on Friday)
      • Approx. 8 AM - 5 PM
      • Approx. 4 hours of overtime each week
      • Near Omaha & Lincoln
    • 3 weeks of Overnight Camp
      • Monday - Thursday
      • Approx. 8 AM on Day 1 - 6 PM Day 4
      • Overtime hours ranging from 8 - 21 hours depending on the week
      • 1 of the weeks is near Ashland, 2  of the weeks we provide transportation
    • Possible Zoo Campout
  • A supportive team, from peers, Site Directors, Nurse, and Camp Director. You are never a ‘lone wolf.'
  • We reimburse gas and carpool often.
  • Yes, it's hot outside, but we also have A/C at all locations.
  • We bring our own sack lunch for day camps, but meals are provided at overnights.

Pay:

  • Up to 40 hours of time: $12.50/hr
  • Overtime: Time and a half, so $19.75 for each hour over 40
  • On Call: $1/hr
    • During overnights, once campers are in bed, on-call pay begins and ends when they wake up
    • Typically On Call hours are typically from 11 PM - 7 AM
  • $4,400: If you work each day and didn't take any time off, you would make about this amount during the summer (this accounts for all hours worked including overtime and on call hours)
