TYPE OF POSITION: Summer Internship

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:      35-40 hours per week, about June 3 through about August 23

This position is designed to aid County Extension staff during the busy summer months. The Summer Intern will increase his/her knowledge of youth development programs, community partnerships, volunteer development, UW-Extension and the 4-H Youth Development. This summer position provides valuable pre-professional experience for educational and community-based careers. The Summer Intern is supervised by the Iowa County 4-H Youth Development Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Summer Intern work involves, but is not limited to, assisting in the design, implementation and evaluation of youth development programs that benefit the Iowa County 4-H program, such as 4-H project lessons; outdoor education at camp; 4-H fund raising activities; animal science events; social media, publicity and marketing collaboration; Cloverbud Day Camp and Pen Pal program; summer art opportunities; and older youth programming. As time permits, assist in additional Extension short term programming as opportunities arise.  This is an entry level position requiring significant contact with the public.  This summer position provides flexibility in scheduling; however some weekend and evening work will be required. 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Evidence of successful leadership experience in 4-H preferred, school and/or community organizations.
  • Assist other UW Extension Staff as needed with projects
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability
  • Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft programs
  • 4-H experience and ability to speak Spanish desirable
  • Minimum age of 19 by June 1, 2024, preference age of 21 by June 1, 2024.
