Job Summary: The CSN is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, evaluation, collaborating, and in most cases providing direct services to ensure that the school district’s health program, as defined by the Pennsylvania School Code, School District policies, and the PA Department of Health Division of School Health Regulations is carried out according to the specifics in the Law (mandated programs) and within the parameters established for approved modified programs. Mandated School Health Programs may be modified (with Department of Health approval), based on identified local health needs with a plan established and recommended by the Local Advisory School Health Board and concurred with by the District Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a proper Pennsylvania certification for the position
    • Current PA Registered Nurse license
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
    • Certification as Educational Specialist (Certified School Nurse) by PA DOE, or working toward credential with expected completion within 2023-2024 school year
    • CPR/AED/First Aid certification
  • Background/experience preferred in first aid, pediatric nursing, community health nursing, critical care nursing, medical surgery nursing, and/or emergency room nursing
  • Knowledge of current Child Abuse Law
  • Required Act 48 continuing education coursework for Nursing license and Education Specialist II certificate
  • To follow the standard of member conduct as stated in the PA Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators
  • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements

  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive school health services program for students, following the guidelines of the PA School Code and school district policies
  • Provides direct services to students, using the nursing process to provide care to the school community in accordance with the current medical practice and nursing standards, relevant statutes, and regulations
  • Maintain data information in district-based technology programs
  • Create and maintain effective environments for student learning
  • Model the image of a "life-long learner" by continuing to learn and grow professionally
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents
  • Attend meetings and complete required reports


Salary 2024-2025 School Year:
Full salary matrix is available in the appendix of the following collective bargaining agreement, which can be accessed by clicking here.
*Placement upon salary scale is dependent upon education and years of experience. 


Schedule:
7.5 hours per day based upon district-approved calendar
Up to 191 days per year, plus up to 3 days of orientation for professional employees during first year of employment

Eligibility - No Waiting Period
All employees may enroll in the district’s health benefit plans effective with their date of hire into the benefit eligible position. 

Eligible Dependents
A legally married spouse as defined by PA law and children up to age 26 may enroll in the District’s health benefit plans.

New Hires or Newly Eligible
You have 31 days from the date that you are benefit eligible to make your elections. If you do not make elections during this time, you will only be enrolled into any benefit that is provided by the District at no cost to you.

Life Benefit
Pays 1 x your basic annual salary up to maximum of $50,000


Income Protection Benefit
Pays 60% of your basic monthly pay, up to $2,800 per month

Tuition Reimbursement
75% of tuition if grade if B or better is attained; limit 12 credits per year.

Induction Program
All new teachers, including Long Term Substitutes (LTS), will participate in the DASD Induction Program. The district offers a one- or two-year program depending on the number of years of prior professional experience within PA public schools.
