Baseball Softball League Intern

The Ted Rasberry Youth League Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside our team in providing the city of Grand Rapids with a free youth baseball & softball league for kids in grades 1st-6th.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Organizing, taking inventory, and sorting of all baseball jerseys, pants, gloves, bats, and other equipment.
  2. Assisting in the marketing efforts for the league around town – ie. visiting Grand Rapids Public Schools to pass out flyers during the final week of school, passing out flyers in neighborhoods surrounding the fields, etc.
  3. Assisting the Director in team creation for all registrants
  4. Supervising and managing a field and its participants, along with YMCA staff members, 4 nights a week for the duration of the season
  5. Taking attendance, collecting waivers, taking new registrations, and taking pictures of programming
  6. Communicating with parents, coaches, and children effectively to keep each field location running smoothly
  7. Helping coaches with their practices and game times, or stepping in as the coach if someone is absent
  8. Umpiring youth baseball and softball games as needed
  9. Passing out meals to kids in the program after each practice and/or game
  10. Attending meetings regarding the Ted Rasberry Youth League and assisting the Director in other responsibilities
  11. Assisting in any other way the Director may need or helping in any other area the intern would like to experience

AVAILABILITY:

This year, the league will run mid-June through mid-August with evening games Monday-Thursday (4:00 - 9:00 PM). Optional position start date of early May to assist with league preparation prior to the summer.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 day

COMPENSATION:

Currently, we are unable to offer payment for internship hours. Interns who work over 10 hours a month are eligible for a free YMCA membership.
