Laboratory Administrative Coordinator

Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan’s core purpose and core values, the Laboratory Administrative Coordinator provides general administrative support to the laboratory and performs basic laboratory functions such as sample receipt and verification.

Duties & Responsibilities

The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and not intended to be inclusive. Those in bold are essential duties of the position:

  • Organize, distribute, and store records appropriately.
  • Reconcile billing records with Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN).
  • Update the laboratory database with new or altered transplant patient listings.
  • Receive, verify, and store samples appropriately.
  • Coordinate shipment of biopsy slides to partner organizations.
  • Coordinate and provide administrative support for meetings and continuing education activities.
  • Maintain adequate office and specimen collection supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience

Required

  • Associate degree and a minimum of two years laboratory or healthcare administrative experience or a combination of relevant education and related work experience.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams and other technology systems used in business operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently on daily activities.
  • Ability to learn and understand scientific and medical terminology.
  • Use standard office equipment.
  • Concentrate and function with frequent distractions and interruptions.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
