The Program

 

Mallinckrodt is offering an 10-12 week internship program, which provides an immersive experience in the world of pharmaceuticals. As an MNK Intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful and impactful work that compliments the degree you are pursuing. Here, you will be able to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to a corporate environment. In addition, our internship program is designed to include networking opportunities across the company, professional development workshops, and community service.

Summary of Position

 

The successful candidate, with support from mentors, will conduct analytical research within MNK’s pharmaceutical business.  The analytical research will be focused on the chromatographic, spectroscopic and/or physiochemical analysis/characterization of materials using various analytical techniques and instrumentation.  The proposed project involves working with and providing analytical support to the formulations team as they develop an extended release – bead coating formulation for a generic product.  This position resides within the Center for Analytical Research (CAR), part of the Generic R&D organization.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform analytical testing and research.
  • Operate complex analytical instrumentation.
  • Document results in laboratory notebooks.
  • Perform work in accordance with current SOPs.
  • Handle responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  • Handle and track controlled substances.

 

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Education / Experience / Skills: Pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is required.  Completed coursework must include 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry and related laboratory coursework.

 

  • Knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, Dissolution, FTIR/NMR/UV Spectroscopy, and optical microscopy is advantageous.
  • A working knowledge of common laboratory procedures.
  • Exhibit effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Individual must possess technical competency.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills.

 

 

Relationship with Others/Scope of Position

 

The individual will report to the Director of Analytical Chemistry and will be supported by at least 2-3 Principal Scientists/Mentors within the analytical organization.  Additionally, collaboration with the formulations team and intern in support of project is required.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Typical laboratory conditions. The laboratory facility is air conditioned and environmentally controlled. Employees are required to wear eye protection and lab coats while in the lab area. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 lbs., and may work with toxic and/or caustic chemicals. This role is based on site 5 days/week.
