Music Ministry Fellow

Grace Church in Newark is seeking a Music Ministry Fellow for 2024-2025. Email a resume and a short cover letter to rector@gracechurchinnewark.org. More information about the parish at GraceChurchInNewark.org.

The Music Ministry Fellowship at Grace Church is an opportunity for a young adult, likely only recently out of college, to spend one to two years living, praying, discerning, and serving with a dynamic and diverse parish community in downtown Newark, NJ with a long history of fine music. The main focus of the fellowship will be working with our Chorister Program for youth in Newark.

The Ministry Fellow lives on-site with the other Ministry Fellow at Grace Church in the old monastic quarters above the Parish House. The Fellowship involves leading the weekend and afterschool Chorister Program for youth, along with directing them and a small adult volunteer ensemble in worship. The musical tradition at Grace Church is strictly traditional sacred classical with an emphasis on Gregorian Chant and Anglican Church music. Experience with Gregorian chant is not required, but an interest and willingness to learn and lead others.

Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree or minor in vocal performance, music education, or other musical degrees are encouraged to apply. An ideal applicant should demonstrate maturity, vigor, a commitment to living simply, and devotion to a life of service and spirituality. The Fellow will be under the supervision of and receive support in discerning their life’s vocation from the Rector of Grace Church.

An applicant need not be an Episcopalian but should be able to serve an Episcopal congregation with integrity. The Fellow will participate in all aspects of living a shared life and prayer with the other staff and wider parish community.
