Mathematics Teacher/Coach

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

To support the professional growth of middle school mathematics teachers by strengthening classroom teachers’ understanding of math content.

To provide instruction in Mathematics to grades 3rd-5th and/or 6th-8th grade.

To promote enhanced mathematics instruction and student learning by helping teachers develop more effective mathematics teaching practices that allow all students to reach high standards as well as sharing research addressing how students learn mathematics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in elementary or middle school education, secondary mathematics, or K-8 mathematics specialist.

2. Applicant must have three or more years’ experience as a Mathematics Teacher or K-8 Teacher with sufficient time spent in the teaching of mathematics.

3. Applicant who has had teaching experience must have an acceptable rating on such teaching.

4. Applicant must have good health and no disqualifying physical or emotional handicaps. Evidence of fitness to teach from the standpoint of health may be required from a qualified physician.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE

1.     To comply with school and school board policies and regulations.

2.     To work cooperatively with the total staff.

3.     To relate positively to parents and other community representatives.

4.     To demonstrate professional growth.

5.     To be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.

B. MATHEMATICS SPECIALIST

1.     Collaborate with individual teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, and coaching.

2.     Assist administrative and instructional staff in interpreting data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction

3.     Assist the Title Coordinator to ensure the curriculum is aligned with state standards.

4.     Promote teachers’ delivery and understanding of the school curriculum through collaborative long-range and short-range planning and teacher coaching.

5.     Facilitate teachers’ use of successful, research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners.

6.     Collaborate with administrators to provide leadership and staff development for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Education Center Academy mathematics program and vision statement.

7.     Majority of specialist time in classrooms and/or directly with math teachers. Designated specialist time may be spent on curriculum enhancements, assessment work, planning professional development, or other related tasks to improve the division’s math program.
