Camp Staff Supervision and Support Coordinator

SUMMARY
The Staff Supervision & Support Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the well-being and performance of camp staff during the camp season. This role involves hiring, supervising, and evaluating counselors, activity specialists, and volunteers, providing support and training, and ensuring that staff provide a high-quality experience for campers. During the off-season, the Coordinator supports staff outreach and recruitment efforts, conducts interviews, and develops training programs for staff growth and policy orientation. Additionally, this role includes regular one-on-one meetings with the Director of Camp Services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Exemplify the elements of SVdP: Spirituality, Friendship and Service in all phases of work
• Advance the mission, goals, and objectives in all applicable strategic plans
• Support / Live / Adhere to the “Rule” and teachings set forth by Frederic Ozanam
• Effectively communicate to SVdPD staff any new, changed, or eliminated, process, procedure, program, or resolution
• Ability to work well with others
 

Summer Camp Program (mid-June to mid-August – Full Time):
• Collaborate with leadership team to create cabin assignments for campers and staff
• Maintain a consistent presence out in the camp program observing staff and volunteers
• Supervise and evaluate camp staff and volunteers, providing feedback and support
• Review staff journals and paperwork weekly for continuous improvement
• Communicate and coordinate with the camp administration team to address camper needs and concerns
• Develop and distribute staff awards to recognize outstanding performance
• Coordinate staff roles and responsibilities such as cleaning and transportation assignments
• Collect and return lost and found items to campers and staff
• Lead daily staff meetings to address updates and concerns
• Lead Monday and Saturday staff meetings for more in-depth debrief and preparation for coming weeks
• Conduct cleanliness inspections in specialist areas and staff spaces, including the staff kitchen and roundhouse
• Provide transportation for campers to rendezvous points and field trips/adventure camp canoe trips as needed
• Review and follow up on incident reports related to staff concerns, ensuring appropriate actions are taken
Summer program compensation is $650/week plus room and board.
 

Off-Season Responsibilities (January to June – approx. 80 hours total):
• Support staff and volunteer outreach and recruitment efforts to attract qualified candidates for camp positions
• Review parent and camper surveys for staff-related feedback, identifying areas for improvement
• Conduct staff and volunteer interviews and select qualified staff for the upcoming camp season
• Develop training programs related to staff growth and policy orientation
• Conduct one-on-one meetings with the Director of Camp Services to discuss progress, planning, and improvements (6-10 meetings per year)
Off-season compensation is $20/hour.


QUALIFICATIONS
• Previous experience in camp management or a related field is preferred
• Previous experience managing, supervising, and providing constructive feedback to staff
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse staff, volunteers, and campers
• Training and certification in camp safety and supervision will be provided during the off-season
 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, or a related field
• Preferred three years of supervisory experience, preferably in a camp setting
• Minimum three years of experience working with children
• Enjoy camp life and the benefits realized by the campers
 

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate with those at all levels and cultures. Strong communication and organizational skills, including time management. Must demonstrate productive teamwork with other employees and work independently.
 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
 

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and assignments furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Solid problem-solving skills, ability to work under pressure, and handle multiple tasks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, hear, drive, and perform physical labor. This position will require working daily including the possibility of evenings and weekends. Valid driver license is mandatory. Occasional lifting of up to 35 lbs. Utilization of hand dolly or co-workers’ assistance when lifting heavy objects is preferred.
