Special Education Substitute Teacher

At St. Coletta's, our mission is to serve children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they can achieve their greatest potential. Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. School is a therapeutic day school in Tinley Park, Illinois. We are Illinois State Board of Education certified and serve intellectual and developmental disability students ages three until twenty-one. Our curriculum is provided twelve months a year, with one week breaks between the trimesters. Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy School has a low student/teacher ratio, in a self-contained campus with exceptional and credentialed teachers, aides, and medical oversight where needed has a robust curriculum focused on student development toward independence, productivity and societal participation in a most normal and least restrictive environment.


We are seeking a motivated Special Education Substitute Teacher to join the Kennedy School. This individual will be reporting to the Director of Education/Principal. The schedule for the position is Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 3:15 PM. 


Position Summary:

Responsible for the implementation, and supervision of a specialized program aligned with the Common Core and New Illinois Learning Standards (NILS) and based on the individual needs of students identified with a disability under IDEA. Responsible for following the substitute plans as well but in the event of an extended absence, creation and implementation of lesson plans is necessary. Manage and direct classroom assistants within the school policy. When all LBSI positions are full, this position will substitute for open Paraprofessional positions.


Qualifications:

  • State of Illinois Teaching PEL or substitute teacher certification. Information on how to apply for the PEL or substitute teacher certification can be found through the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Substitute Certification.
  • Experience teaching in a special education environment preferred.
  • At least three references that indicate excellence in teaching and the ability to teach in a highly structured environment, one of which must be from the present employer or academic advisor.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
