Volunteer Online Tutor (Grades 6-12) of Nonprofit

WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER ONLINE TUTORS!

Requirements:

  • Live in IL or TX
  • Have at least 1 year of teaching/tutoring experience
  • Have a college degree or be enrolled in college
  • Participate (unpaid) online in:
    • 1.5-hour onboarding meeting
    • 2-hour “Teaching Metacognition, Executive Functions, and Interpersonal Skills” roundtable
    • 8-hour “Culturally Responsive and Trauma Informed Teaching” course
  • Commit to a minimum of 1.5 hours per week for 4 months (October-January, February-May, or June-September)
  • Have reliable access to a device with Wi-Fi, camera, and Zoom capabilities

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work with low-income students in grades 6-12. Each student will have 18 hours of tutoring over 4 months. The sessions will take place online.
  • Advocate for our nonprofit, spreading awareness and inspiring interest
  • Enter schedule and lesson notes in a timely manner
  • Communicate expectations, plans, and progress with your students and their families
  • Utilize tutoring best practices during the lessons

Tutors Need Experience in 3+ Subject Areas:

  • Elementary school: math, ELAR, science, social studies
  • Middle school: math (through algebra), ELAR, life/earth/physical sciences, history, high school placement test prep (ISEE/HSPT/SEHS/STAAR)
  • High school: math (through calculus), ELA, biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, history, AP & ACT/SAT test prep, college planning, college applications
  • Enrichment: arts, music, writing, foreign language, STEAM, real-life skills, etc.
  • Soft Skills: critical thinking, creative problem solving, inquiry, innovation, advocacy, etc.

We rely solely on donations, so VOLUNTEER tutors are greatly appreciated!
