Engineering Intern/Co-op

The Eaton County Road Commission is seeking Engineering Interns and Co-ops for the 2024 construction season. The Eaton County Road Commission is located in Charlotte, Michigan, which is only 30 minutes from MSU campus. This is an excellent location for students with leases through the summer!

During the 2024 construction season, the Engineering Department at the Eaton County Road Commission will administer a federally funded road rehabilitation project with a total cost of $1.2 million, about $11,000,000 of road rehabilitation and resurfacing which includes about $2,000,000 of road widening and pulverizing, and one bridge rehabilitation project. In addition to these projects, we will re-gravel and apply dust control on existing gravel roads, perform data collection, and collect topographical survey for future projects.

To administer these projects, students perform a variety of construction inspection, surveying, and engineering related tasks including on-site inspection, preparing daily reports, generating pay estimates, surveying using GNSS and total station survey equipment, collecting GIS field data, placing and collecting traffic counters, mapping, utilize CAD, as well as many other engineering related tasks. Students can expect to work with other inspectors, engineers, and contractors in the field.

This position is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable field experience working hands-on as they are exposed to a variety of Civil Engineering related projects.
