Community Health Outreach Volunteer

Committed to unlocking the potential of every child, the IWS Children’s Clinic is a full-service primary care clinic providing comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health and social services for children in need.

 

Position Title: Community Health Outreach Volunteer

Reports to: Director of Grants & Outreach

 

Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions: Engage families at local community events to promote the programs and services of the OPRF Infant Welfare Society and the IWS Children’s Clinic

 

Part-time volunteer (unpaid): must commit to attending a minimum of 5 events over the summer

 

Program Description: The CHO volunteer assists with community outreach events on behalf of the OPRF Infant Welfare Society. The goal is to spread awareness of our services and to refer qualifying children to the IWS Children’s Clinic for medical, dental, and behavioral health care. The CHO volunteer is primarily concerned with scheduling and attending events over the summer, usually on Fridays and Saturdays. Date and duration of events will vary, but most take place in the morning and last three to four hours. We target local communities that reflect the Clinic’s patient base, including Oak Park, Berwyn, Cicero, and the City of Chicago.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Research, prepare, and attend community events (health fairs, resource fairs, backpack giveaways, etc.) either with an IWS staff member, volunteer, or independently
  • Assist with set up and break down of table displays and related supplies/materials
  • Answer questions about IWS services, while promoting a professional and welcoming atmosphere
  • Engage with other community organizations for referral and collaborative purposes
  • Ensure inventory of marketing materials (flyers, brochures, etc.) and giveaways (toothbrushes, magnets, etc.) are well maintained and regularly replenished
  • Promote oral health and nutrition by utilizing  teaching aids 
  • Track events attended and individuals reached via spreadsheet for reporting purposes
  • Perform additional tasks as needed

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong communication skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Interest in dentistry, public health, healthcare, childcare, and/or education a plus.
