Air Pollution Specialist
The Regional Air Quality Modeling (RAQM) Section at CARB is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the position of Air Pollution Specialist. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team to provide air quality modeling support for the development of State Implementation Plans, as well as other regulatory and scientific activities at CARB. The primary responsibilities of this position include: 1) conduct global chemical transport model simulations to provide boundary conditions for regional air quality modeling and investigate the impact of global sources on California's air quality; 2) evaluate and improve air quality model performance through comparison of the model output to data collected from the routine monitoring network, field studies and satellite data products; 3) investigate the key sources and chemical processes for the formation of ozone and PM2.5 in various non-attainment areas in California as well as the impact of meteorological parameters on these air pollutants. 4) develop methods for evaluating the ability of a photochemical model to simulate the observed change in pollutant concentrations over time, including recommendations on how to update/improve the emissions inventory, chemical mechanism, and meteorology used in the simulations.

Working Conditions
The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
