Preventionist-Bilingual

BASIC FUNCTION:  Provide sexual assault prevention education programs for academic institutions, youth groups and community organizations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Act as a liaison between the Sexual Assault Services Center and the educational system
  2. Develop and maintain contacts within the educational system and the community to promote prevention education
  3. Develop and implement age-appropriate presentations and events focusing on issues related to sexual abuse/assault which include elements of identification, reporting and prevention
  4. Provide supervision and support to volunteers providing prevention services
  5. Provide direct service to victims of sexual abuse/assault
  6. Participate in on-call duties
  7. Represent GACS/Sexual Assault Services Center in academic, community and professional organizations
  8. Submit all reports, oral and written, in an accurate and  timely manner to as required by GACS and in accordance with contractual obligations
  9. Structure and oversee volunteer activities related to prevention services
  10. Organize and coordinate volunteers for prevention services
  11. Communicate problems and issues within the Sexual Assault Services Center to the Program Director
  12. Work collaboratively with other agencies
  13. Assist GACS administration in any investigation against conduct that is illegal
  14. Other duties as assigned

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Attend staff meetings, all-agency and other meetings as assigned

QUALIFICATION:

  1. Bilingual- Spanish
  2. Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or a related field or three years experience in the areas of education or social work
  3. Interest in women’s issues
  4. Forty (40) hours of  ICASA approved sexual assault training
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  6. Good computer skills
  7. Demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of persons served
  8. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
  9. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials
  10. Ability to work flexible hours
  11. Valid Illinois driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance coverage
