Paralegal or Legal Services Assistant

Kent County Corporate Counsel’s Office is seeking a paralegal or legal services assistant. This temporary part-time position will support the purchasing contract team 10-20 hours per week. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and learn or solidify legal skills. 

 

Job Description

Hours vary; anticipated 10-20 per week; and scheduled hours each morning Monday through Thursday preferred. Work location is in the Kent County Administration Building (300 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids). The rate is to be determined per hour, depending upon experience. Downtown parking is provided.   

 The position responsibilities and tasks include: 

  • Review contract terms and communicate relevant concerns and legal concepts to Assistant Corporate Counsel and/or Purchasing Manager. 
  • Research historical contract terms and compare to current proposed terms. 
  • Draft contracts compliant with County policies under direction of Counsel and/or Purchasing Manager.
  • Research MiDeal and other cooperative contracts, pricing, etc. 
  • Issue, disburse and administer execution of contracts via County procurement systems and DocuSign (from contract template).
  • Process routine Freedom of Information Act requests and documentation. 
  • Monitor and report contract compliance, expiration, renewal, and bid dates.
  • Maintain purchasing records and prepare required and requested purchasing reports. 
  • Administrative legal tasks as assigned by Assistant Corporate Counsel and/or Purchasing Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with a Legal Studies major or paralegal certification, or be currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior level student in a Bachelor’s Degree Legal Studies program.
