Safety - Summer Internship

Zekelman Industries is seeking a summer Safety Intern to join our team located in Wheatland, PA for 2024. This internship is designed to give you an understanding of how safety is driven at a Company who prioritizes safety first and has a strong safety culture. During the internship, you will be exposed to various aspects of safety management. You will develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation to build a career in the safety field.

As a Safety Intern, you will work with a great group of people who really care about the job you do. Job duties will include supporting the facility safety culture and improvements by participating in projects or initiatives identified by the site. This position will be reporting to the Safety Manager.

RESPONSIBILITES:

· Assist in Safety Audits: Collaborate with senior health and safety professionals to conduct workplace safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and compliance issues.

· Data Analysis: Collect and analyze safety data, including incident reports, near misses, and safety performance metrics. Help in the preparation of reports and recommendations based on data analysis.

· Training Support: Assist in the coordination and delivery of safety training programs and workshops for employees, including organizing training materials and tracking employee participation.

· Documentation: Maintain and update safety records, procedures, and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.

· Incident Investigations: Support incident investigations by gathering information, interviewing witnesses, and assisting in root cause analysis.

· Emergency Preparedness: Participate in the development and testing of emergency response plans and procedures.

· Safety Communication: Help in the creation and distribution of safety communication materials and initiatives to promote awareness and safe work practices.

· Research: Stay current with industry best practices, regulations, and emerging trends in health and safety to contribute ideas and recommendations for continuous improvement.

· Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Actively working to obtain a 4-year degree in Health & Safety, or related field.

· Understand Health and Safety regulations

· Strong written and verbal communication

· Detail oriented and self-motivated

· Experience working independently and as effective team member

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

· Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer, and other tasks as assigned.

· Regular, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is an essential function of this role

· Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull.
