Project Engineer - Summer Internship - (PLC/Automation)

Zekelman Industries is seeking a Project Engineer Intern located at our facility in Rochelle, IL. Reporting to the VP of Engineering and Technology, this position will be hands-on, and the candidate selected will have the opportunity to work in our new facility with one of the worlds most advanced steel mills. The intern will learn the essential duties of PLC Engineering and Robotics. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel maybe required
  • Responsible for new/existing projects, including working closely with integrators/contractors/vendors
  • Assist with designs and engineering solutions for the projects assigned
  • Work closely in identifying and resolving problems involving equipment at the facility
  • Work with programming and troubleshooting PLCs and Robotics.  Specifically: Allen Bradley; Siemens; and Fanuc
  • Read and understand electrical prints and ladder logic
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes to improve product quality, process efficiencies and machine reliability
  • Research and identify robotics technology for use on the plant floor
  • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for robotics
  • Assist in develop new control systems and modify existing systems
  • Work with plant production to evaluate areas for process improvement and then oversee improvement from concept to implementation
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems; identify need for new equipment and/or modifications to existing equipment to optimize performance and reliability
  • Maintain records of all plant equipment and their modifications, updating files and AutoCAD drawings to ensure accurate information is on file
  • Analyze data and present findings in written report form
  • Research new technologies and investigate their integration into plant applications
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current College student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Mechatronics)
  • A strong team player is necessary with the ability to coordinate efforts of many individuals internal and external to the organization
  • Sound decision making ability, computational, and analytical skills 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
