Annual Pay Range: $47,617.50 - $59,925.25


Hourly Pay Range: $22.893027 - $28.810215


Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

If you answered “yes” to the questions above, we want you to join our team as a Legal Assistant 1 in the Criminal Division of the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office. We are seeking a motivated individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills. If you are selected this position, you will play a critical role in providing legal support services to the prosecutors of the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office. You will have an opportunity to apply your knowledge of basic legal terminology, organizational skills, and judgment to prioritize multiple competing tasks in order to support the work of the prosecutors. Additionally, you will be responsible for performing a wide variety of technical tasks and office functions in support of legal and administrative actions.


As a Legal Assistant 1, you will provide basic legal assistance and administrative support to Deputy District Attorneys. This may include reviewing and entering case information into a case management system, preparing legal documents and correspondence from form templates, maintaining case files, and basic trial preparation. The Legal Assistant 1 is the entry level within the Legal Assistant series with assigned caseloads that only require a District Attorney Information for charging and do not involve preliminary proceedings (Grand Jury or preliminary hearing). In this role, you will be responsible for providing exemplary customer service in person, in writing, and over the phone to judges, court personnel, police agencies and other jurisdictions, community members, and co-workers. In addition, it will be absolutely critical to accurately enter sensitive data. Other key elements of these positions include a focus on organizing and prioritizing work, serving as the point of contact for local agencies, as well as working collaboratively with, Deputy District Attorneys (DDAs), and agents. This position requires providing high quality clerical support, such as reception, scanning, form and document processing, answering phone, and/or processing mail, as it may be necessary from time to time.


The position may provide you with an opportunity to work with some degree of independence, including training staff related to duties in assigned areas, providing support for special projects, and taking initiative to investigate and problem solve issues, while working collaboratively with others to achieve a positive outcome.


As an employee of the Clackamas County District Attorney's office, which plays a role in providing justice and upholding the rule of law, you are required to meet the highest standards of professional conduct and ethics while on the job, and also to maintain those same high standards when taking actions in your personal life that could reflect on the Department.


Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*


• A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience providing clerical support, including data entry, reception and document processing

• Basic familiarity with legal terminology, general legal office procedures, and/or other relevant legal processes

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience providing customer service over the phone and in person

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience working with sensitive and confidential information

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in positions that required strong organizational skills

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience establishing priorities and managing workload with minimal supervision

• Experience working in a fast paced environment

• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

• Strong data entry skills


Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*


• Experience working in a legal and/or criminal justice field

• Experience using a case management system

• Working knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of criminal or judicial system

• An understanding of the criminal justice system infrastructure

• Knowledge of laws, statutes, regulations, executive orders, agency rules of the federal, state, and local governments, mandated Oregon Administrative Rules, and public records laws

• Possession of Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification

• Designation as Notary Public for the State of Oregon


Pre-employment Requirements:


• Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

• Must pass a background check, which includes, but is not limited to, criminal history, driving record, and national or state fingerprint records check.

• Driving may be necessary for County business. For position(s) with occasional/incidental driving, incumbents must possess a valid driver's license. If assigned to Intake desk, duties include but are not limited to: responds to or finds solutions for questions and issues regarding cases submitted by law enforcement agencies; consults with supervisor for assistance on new or unusual issues; receives, reviews, and inputs law enforcement reports from agencies; identifies, flags or extracts, and categorizes confidential reports that would require qualified protective orders prior to discovery; updates or adds defendants; creates new case within case management system and updates case with all pertinent information found within law enforcement reports and LEDS criminal history; links related digital evidence; applies thorough knowledge and understanding of charges to efficiently assign case to deputy district attorney based on severity of charge; identifies missing reports or evidence, and makes requests; processes all reports associated with in-custody defendants on the day of In-Custody arraignment, adhering to variety of timelines.


If assigned to the Front desk, duties include but are not limited to: Provides customer service to our phone-in/walk-in clients and other agencies throughout law enforcement and defense council; handles and processess all mail safely. This mail can consist of electronic email inboxes, Letters of Disposition, Satisfactions of Judgment and Hard Copy Police Reports/Digital Evidence.


If assigned to the Out-of-custody desk duties include but are not limited to: Docketing staff edits and sends out the Trial/Long Docket so that DDAs and staff know the location of hearings and the DA Website can be updated for citizens to reference. Docketing staff are responsible for preparing for all out of custody hearings. For the named dockets, this includes pulling all physical materials, matching Setting Control in case management system (PbK) to the court schedule and informing DDAs where to pick up the materials. For un-named dockets (ie trials and motions etc), this means matching Setting Control in PbK to the court schedule and sending the omnibus docket.




This position works 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Friday. Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.


Please Note: This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
