Staff Research Associate / Animal Technician

Overview
The translational metabolic imaging laboratory of Dr. Renuka Sriram in collaboration with Drs. Peehl and Kurhanewicz (https://radiology.ucsf.edu/research/labs/translational-metabolic-imaging) is seeking an Animal Technician / In-Vivo Specialist to develop, maintain and oversee mouse tumor models for imaging research applications. Our lab is focused on developing imaging biomarkers for diagnoses, disease stratification and therapeutic response assessment for oncologic studies.

We seek candidates to contribute to a dynamic team environment, to support students and junior fellows through basic technical training, and to work independently in areas of proficiency. Lab duties will be centered around surgical procedures for tumor induction in mouse models (such as renal capsule, subcutaneous, intratibial and intra hepatic inoculation), dosing (tail vein, oral gavage, intraperitoneal), catherization, necropsy, dissection and cryopreservation of tumors. This position also comes with the opportunity to learn and develop imaging techniques to monitor tumor growth.
Essential job functions
·      Coordinate day-to-day work and follow protocols to complete a variety of detailed tasks and assignments.
  • Record detailed procedures and results.
·      Participation in lab and departmental meetings
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 2 years of experience
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in small animal surgery is required. Candidates with experience in mouse models, particularly in cancer models, will be prioritized. 
·      Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
·      Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
·     Candidates with experience in tumor biology with additional skills in molecular and cellular biology, including mammalian cell culture will be favorably reviewed. Experienced persons seeking senior technician and/or lab manager positions will be considered and are strongly encouraged to apply.
